Welcome to the world, baby boy! Every so often I get a "perfectly sleepy baby" come to visit me in the studio - a super content and calm baby that sleeps through their whole session. Baby R was one of those so-called perfectly sleepy babies - I would've happily kept him! He arrived at the studio fast asleep, had a little top up and then fell into an even deeper sleep. His laid back demeanor and sweet sleepy smiles could melt any heart!

I just adore family shots. The interaction between the parents and their new bundle of joy is just magical - it's clear to see how in love these two are with their gorgeous little boy.
When I direct family shots, I try to let the interaction happen naturally. Sometimes I will give the parents a gentle nudge in the right direction, but I find the non-posed shots come across so much better, and they're almost always the ones that end up being parent favourites too.
Did you know that I always leave plenty of time to include family shots as part of my newborn sessions? For the family shots I suggest wearing neutral tones in similar colours as seen in the image above.
Beautiful baby boy in white. His parents had requested neutral colours along with different tones of blues and greys. I loved preparing for this session and picking out different fabrics and textures to compliment each other.

Sweet sleepy smiles! Doesn't he just look all snug and cosy? Incorporating mummy and daddy's hands is something I always try to do in my newborn sessions - they grow so fast and there's something so special about being able to look back, remembering just how tiny your little one used to be.
Are you looking to book a newborn session?
Newborn sessions are best booked for when baby is between 1 to 3 weeks old. This is because they are still all curled up, like how they were in the womb and are still very sleepy. That being said, I am more than happy to book in babies for newborn sessions up to 8 weeks of age.
As a mum myself, I can completely appreciate how it might be difficult to get the time to fit in a newborn photoshoot in those first few weeks, on top of everything else you've got going on! I wouldn't discourage you from considering a newborn session if you've missed that golden window to book. "Older" newborns can sometimes be just as easy to pose as a baby that's only a couple of days old - regardless of your newborns age, we can capture some beautiful images for you and your family to cherish for years to come.
