Meet gorgeous little Matilda. The sweetest little girl with the sweetest little pout! I had the pleasure of meeting this stunning baby girl last year for her newborn session - she came to visit me with her lovely mummy and daddy and her two beautiful big sisters.

I always start my Newborn sessions with family and sibling shots - for a variety of reasons. If my clients have brought their older children along, I prefer to get them involved straight away. The vast majority of older siblings absolutely love posing for the camera and having a cuddle with their new brother or sister! Once we've finished, I usually suggest that one of the parents take their older children outside in my garden to have a run around - or even to the nearby Manor Park which is only a short 3 minute walk away. It is complete with a large playground and there's even a little pond where they can feed the ducks!
It can sometimes be difficult to settle the little ones with older siblings present in the studio and I find they sometimes get restless as newborn sessions can easily take a couple of hours. I do have a few books and toys in the studio to keep the younger children entertained, but I definitely recommend bringing a tablet or perhaps an activity book to keep them happy if the weather is miserable!
Matilda and her daddy. You could tell she felt instantly comforted in her daddy's arms. I love the interaction when baby is wide awake for the parent + baby shots. These black and white silhouetted shots are always a client favourite.
Those that know me will be well aware that I'm a lover of all things pink, lace and floral. I'm so glad her mummy requested pastel pinks and was totally on board with my ideas!
I loved setting up this sweet and girly session for this adorable baby girl. Her gallery has a variety of wide awake and sleepy shots - it's not always possible to capture both but I'm so glad I got the chance to snap a few of her with her big blue eyes wide open! Are you looking to book a newborn session?
Newborn sessions are best booked for when baby is between 1 to 2 weeks old. This is because they are still all curled up, like how they were in the womb and are still very sleepy. That being said, I am more than happy to book in babies for newborn sessions up to 8 weeks of age.
As a mum myself, I can completely appreciate how it might be difficult to get the time to fit in a newborn photoshoot in those first few weeks, on top of everything else you've got going on! I wouldn't discourage you from considering a newborn session if you've missed that golden window to book. "Older" newborns can sometimes be just as easy to pose as a baby that's only a couple of days old - regardless of your newborns age, we can capture some beautiful images for you and your family to cherish for years to come.
