Welcome to the world, beautiful Baby Rumi!
I've so been looking forward to meeting this beautiful baby girl! I first met Rumi's family for their outdoor maternity session at Painshill Park. They are such a genuinely lovely and sweet family and they made me feel instantly at ease with them - we even had a picnic in the park together! Fast forward to August and baby Rumi made her appearance - unfortunately she had a few complications after the birth so her session had to be postponed. But at 6 weeks she finally made it into the studio and it was such a pleasure creating even more precious memories for this amazing family! Rumi loved being swaddled, having cuddles with mummy and daddy and loved my Baby Shusher! It's my go-to white noise machine and my trusted side kick when I've got newborns in the studio - it never fails me!
Pink was one of the colours requested by Rumi's mummy and daddy. I don't often get requests for the bright pinks, but I LOVE this colour on newborns and it suits Rumi's delicate skin beautifully.

I just adore mum and baby portraits - this one in particular felt so special as it was an incredibly tender moment between the two of them. You are so loved, baby girl!
When I direct family shots, I try to let the interaction happen naturally. Sometimes I will give the parents some pointers as to how best to support baby's head and body, or make minor adjustments to tilt baby's head slightly towards the camera, but I always find the non-posed shots come across so much better, and they're almost always the ones that end up being parent favourites too.

Snug as a bug - Rumi absolutely loved being swaddled! And just how cute does she look in my heart shaped bowl, incorporating these gorgeous bright summer colours. This is just one of many props I have available in my studio for clients to use throughout their newborn sessions. My photography studio in Aldershot, Hampshire is full of beautiful handmade outfits in a variety of different styles and beautiful bespoke props - I am a self confessed prop-a-holic, but I want to be able to provide parents with exactly the style and feel they're after.
Rumi's parents had requested neutral colours along with different tones of pinks and other bright colours. I loved preparing for this session and picking out different fabrics and textures to compliment each other. Rumi looked absolutely stunning in every single colour they chose, it was so difficult for me to narrow down the images to use for this blog!
And another favourite, I just love this shot below of Baby Rumi on the beanbag, keeping it very simple but adding a pop of colour with the peacock feathers.
I really enjoyed meeting Baby Rumi and her lovely family - it was such a pleasure getting to know you all! Cannot wait to see her again in a few months time for her Little Sitter session.
Are you looking to book a newborn session?
Newborn sessions are best booked for when baby is between 1 to 3 weeks old. This is because they are still all curled up, like how they were in the womb and are still very sleepy. That being said, I am more than happy to book in babies for newborn sessions up to 8 weeks of age.
As a mum myself, I can completely appreciate how it might be difficult to get the time to fit in a newborn photoshoot in those first few weeks, on top of everything else you've got going on! I wouldn't discourage you from considering a newborn session if you've missed that golden window to book. "Older" newborns can sometimes be just as easy to pose as a baby that's only a couple of days old - regardless of your newborns age, we can capture some beautiful images for you and your family to cherish for years to come.
If you're interested in booking your newborn session with me, I suggest getting in touch no later than after your 20 week scan. If your baby is already here, you're more than welcome to get in touch - I always leave a few spaces free every month for last minute bookings.
