Meet beautiful Baby Brooke - she was just over 5 weeks old when she came to see me for her studio Newborn Session. She really loved being held by her mummy and daddy and wasn't too keen on being put down for very long - this does sometimes happen with newborn sessions and if it does, we just work with it! My sessions are entirely baby-led and this always leads to the most stunning photos. Keep scrolling for more photos from Brooke's Newborn Photography Session

Prior to the session, I always give parents the option of choosing a few colours they would like to include. Brooke's parents had requested neutrals with a touch of pink, which is always a favourite for newborn baby girls!

I don't personally feel there is one specific age that is ideal to photograph a newborn as I believe different ages come with their own set of advantages. From birth up until 2 weeks of age your baby will still be very sleepy - so chances are that baby's eyes will be shut on the majority of the photos. This is the age many photographers will often insist is the ideal time to get those beautiful classic newborn photos. Baby will be easier to pose as they still have the natural instinct to curl up, as if they were still in the womb.

From 1-3 months of age your baby will gradually start spending more time awake and are becoming more aware of their surroundings. This is also when they start to smile and coo, which makes this a brilliant opportunity to capture those big beautiful eyes and gorgeous gummy smiles! I completely understand the difficulty of trying to fit a newborn photoshoot in amongst the first few weeks of your little ones life, which is why I am happy to book in babies up to 2 months of age.

Family photos are such an important part of my newborn sessions and I so enjoy being able to provide my clients with photos of them with their newest addition - photos that they will cherish for years to come.

Many of my clients have only just given birth a few days prior to coming to see me and I can absolutely appreciate that as a new mum, you may not feel your best. Getting in front of a camera may be the last thing you feel like doing but I so recommend having at least one or two photos taken of you with your newborn - this is a time you will never get back and I have had clients say how much they regretted not having a few photos done of them with their newborn.

Did you know that my Newborn sessions include sibling and family images at no extra cost? I love capturing the natural connection between new parents and their bundle of joy - no forced smiles or poses. Just you and baby.

Thank you so much for coming to see me, gorgeous baby Brooke!

Are you looking to book a Newborn Session?

Newborn sessions are best booked for when baby is between 1 to 2 weeks old. This is because they are still all curled up, like how they were in the womb and are still very sleepy. That being said, I am more than happy to book in babies for newborn sessions up to 8 weeks of age.

As a mum myself, I can completely appreciate how it might be difficult to get the time to fit in a newborn photoshoot in those first few weeks, on top of everything else you've got going on! I wouldn't discourage you from considering a newborn session if you've missed that golden window to book. "Older" newborns can sometimes be just as easy to pose as a baby that's only a couple of days old - regardless of your newborns age, we can capture some beautiful images for you and your family to cherish for years to come.

If you're interested in booking your newborn session with me, I suggest getting in touch no later than after your 20 week scan. If your baby is already here, you're more than welcome to get in touch - I always leave a few spaces free every month for last minute bookings.

If you would like to make a booking, please don't hesitate to get in touch either via my contact form here or send me an email at starspeckledphotography@gmail.com and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.
