Part 1 - The Portrait Session I always offer to start out the session by capturing a few portraits of the birthday boy or girl in a lovely outfit, either chosen from the studio wardrobe or brought along from home. This is also an excellent way to ease the little ones into the session itself as well as getting them used to me and the studio.

This was my third time meeting Aurelia and her family, so I was of course very excited to see them all again! Her mum had requested an adorable pink butterfly themed cake smash setup and I was really looking forward to creating this for her!It honestly means the world to me when my clients return to the studio for updated photos and it was so wonderful catching up with this lovely family again! Part 2 - The Cake Smash! One of my favourite things about being a Surrey cake smash photographer is that every baby reacts completely differently when their birthday cake is placed in front of them. Some little ones dive straight in with both hands, while others take a little time to investigate every tiny detail before deciding whether to taste it.

For many babies, it's the very first time they've had an entire cake all to themselves, so their reactions are always wonderfully unpredictable. Watching their personalities shine through is one of the reasons I love photographing first birthday cake smash sessions so much.

Aurelia certainly didn't need any encouragement! From the moment her beautiful pink butterfly cake was placed in front of her, she was full of smiles and couldn't wait to explore. She happily tucked into her cake, making the most adorable expressions throughout her butterfly cake smash photoshoot and giving us so many gorgeous moments to capture.

Every cake smash photoshoot at my purpose-built Aldershot studio is completely baby-led, allowing little ones to explore at their own pace while I capture genuine smiles, giggles and those unforgettable first birthday memories. Part 3 - Splish, Splash, Splosh Cake smash sessions can get very messy so bath time is the perfect way to clean up whilst having fun!

Are you looking to book a cake smash session for your little one?

My cake smash & splash sessions start with capturing a few photos of your little one in an outfit of your choice (either one picked out of my studio wardrobe or one you've brought yourself). Then we get your little one changed into their cake smash outfit and let them have some fun getting stuck into their cake! Some children are initially not that keen on getting messy and may need a bit of gentle encouragement, others take to it straight away and relish the opportunity to get messy! The final part of the session is a nice, warm bath in my washtub with lots of bubbles.

A Cake Smash & Splash is a fun-packed session and a unique way to commemorate a birthday, whether that be a 1st, 2nd or 3rd birthday!
